1. 兩者都可指順序上的“最后”，有時(shí)可換用。如：

　　The final [last] word in this dictionary is "zoom". 這本詞典的最后一個(gè)單詞是“zoom”。

　　2. last 主要指一個(gè)系列(如順序、位置、時(shí)間等)的最后，暗示其后不跟有其他人或東西。如：

　　He is sitting in the last row. 他坐在最后一排。

　　He was the last to arrive. 他是最后一個(gè)到的。

　　December is the last month of the year. 12 月是一年的最后一個(gè)月。

　　the final phase of the hospital building programme 醫(yī)院興建計(jì)劃的最后階段

　　有時(shí)指“剩下的”。如：

　　He had spent his last shilling. 他把最后的一點(diǎn)錢也花了。

　　3. final 不側(cè)重指順序上的最后, 而是表示以此作為結(jié)束或到達(dá)終點(diǎn)。如：

　　Final victory is ours. 最后的勝利是我們的。

　　This is the last chance any of us has. 對(duì)我們中間任何人來(lái)說(shuō)，這是最后一次機(jī)會(huì)。

　　I live in the last house but two in this street. 我住在這條街上倒數(shù)第3座房子里。

　　The final exam may present some problems. 期末考試可能會(huì)帶來(lái)一些問題。

　　It is almost late for you to catch the last bus. 天晚了，你快趕不上末班公共汽車了。

　　The final item of the English evening was wonderful. 英語(yǔ)晚會(huì)的壓臺(tái)節(jié)目很精彩。
